April is the perfect time
to plant trees and shrubs, including
both container and bare-root plants.
Divide fall-blooming perennials such as
aster and sedum. Hostas can also be
divided,
above,
before leaves expand.
Plant Easter lilies in the
garden after their blooms fade. Choose
a spot with full sun and shelter from
strong winds. Allow existing bulbs in
your beds to die back on their own,
rather than removing green foliage.
W C o L After the spring growth
flush, prune boxwood, myrtle, and
other sheared shrubs for shape. As
spring-flowering shrubs such as spirea,
forsythia, and lilac finish blooming
perform any needed trimming.
